- [Properties]
-
- Mercury is a heavy, silver-white metal that is in its liquid state at
- ordinary room temperature. When it is cooled to its freezing point, mercury
- looks and feels much like common lead.
- Mercury is a poor conductor of heat, but a rather good conductor of
- electricity. It alloys easily with a number of different metals to form a
- family of commercially useful alloys known as amalgams.
- Mercury is the lowest and heaviest of the Group-IIB metals on the
- periodic table of the elements.
